We are at the beginning of a mass extinction. For more than 30 years the science has been clear. How dare you continue to look the other way, and come here and say that you are doing enough, when the necessary policies and solutions have not yet been seen. You say that you "listen" to us and that you understand the urgency. But no matter how sad or angry I am, I don't want to believe you. Because if you really understood the situation and still didn't act, then you'd be bad. And I don't want to believe you. The famous idea of halving our emissions in 10 years gives us only a 50 percent chance of staying within 1.5 degrees, and the risk of setting off chain reactions beyond human control. Maybe 50 percent may be acceptable to you. But these numbers do not include tipping points, feedback loops, additional warming hidden by toxic air pollution, or aspects of justice and equity. These numbers are also based on the fact that my generation and that of my children will remove hundreds of billions of tons of your CO2 from the air with technologies that barely exist. So 50 percent risk for us is simply not acceptable, for us who have to live with the consequences. To have a 67 percent chance of staying within 1.5 degrees of temperature rise, the best odds according to the IPCC, as of January 1, 2018, the world had 420 gigatons of carbon dioxide left over to emit. Today that figure is already below 350 gigatons. How dare you pretend that this can be solved with business-as-usual and some technical solutions. With current emission levels, the CO2 budget will be completely finished in less than 8 1/2 years. No solutions or plans in line with these figures will be presented today. Because these numbers are too uncomfortable. And you are not yet mature enough to tell it like it is. You are failing us. But young people are starting to understand your betrayal. The eyes of all future generations are upon you. And if you choose to let us down, I tell you, we will never forgive you. We won't let you get away with it. Here, now, is where we draw this line. The world is waking up. And change is coming, whether you like it or not."
